Edward Enninful for British Vogue

As you may know British Vogue has announced its first male editor-in-chief as Edward Enninful. I for one am incredibly proud and excited to see just where this visionary takes the magazine.
As we tip our hats and bid a fond farewell to Alexandra Shulman I would like to say well done British Vogue for innovating beyond the page.

Mostly Lovin’: A Porridge Breakfast

Porridge with Flax-Seed & Flaked Almonds

Let’s be honest, I have to be in the mood for porridge. The recipe must be indulgent with not a hint of the prison breakfast gruel my beloved (if somewhat overly pragmatic) father attempted to serve us in my youth.

These days I demand only the best for my oaty goodness! I like to add a tablespoon of flax-seed to the mix together with ground or flaked almonds to up the protein hit. I love the creamy flavour almond milk imparts. Now here is the very important bit… do not be tempted to microwave your oats! Not only does this nullify the health benefits, it also fails to produce the creamy texture slowly heating on the stove will impart.

As a final flourish I like to drizzle with untreated honey and a sprinkle of cinnamon. I’m fairly certain they don’t serve this at Belmarsh! Bisous.

Mostly Lovin’: Foreo Luna Play Sonic Facial Cleanser

Small but perfectly formed

So I have just started using the Foreo Luna Play mini sonic facial cleanser in my evening cleansing routine. Truth be told, I’m not entirely sure as to just what the benefits are of using a sonic cleanser but I will say the gentle pulsing sensation on the face at the end of a long day is a little treat I have come to savour. Gently moving the LUNA Play in circular motions over my face for 1 minute whilst swilling mouthwash is when I have some of my best ideas!

Instructions suggest using both morning and evening but at this stage I prefer not to overwork my skin and will see how my complexion fares over the coming weeks. I will let you know how I get on. Would you recommend a sonic cleanser and if so why? x

“I’m just so Happy!”

Mostly Lovin’: SJP Stash

Hands Off Mitches!

When I was in my twenties I wore the perfume Black Cashmere by Donna Karan. Warm, spicy and vastly unusual, in retrospect I can appreciate this fragrance was way too grown up for me at that particular stage in my life.

Now, as a woman of a certain age – I find I gravitate to largely unisex fragrances. Lucky for me Sarah Jessica Parker – SJP has just released Stash and I have to say…I am in love with this scent!

The earthy fusion of cedarwood atlas, vetiver (I am obsessed with vetiver!), and pistachio with the musk of bergamot serves to create a seamless fragrance which is both sensual and unexpected on both men and women alike.

I have taken to dousing myself in it an hour or so before leaving the house by which time it has soaked into my skin to create a fragrance akin to clean summer skin. Conversely, I think Stash may be more of a winter fragrance but I would be interested to know your thoughts. xx

Mostly Lovin’: Brand Sezane

Judy Shirt

I am such a fan of French brand Sezane . Created by the ridiculously Gallic Morgane Sezalory, Sezane embraces a laid back yet well crafted ethos. From the well cut silk shirts, the high waist jeans and mid-heels to the Sezane Apartment – a kind of working installation of the brand dedicated to Sezalory’s three passions: books, coffee and bags…my only question is when can I move in?! Bisous.

Mostly Lovin’: Solonge Knowles

Image Interview Magazine

In case you hadn’t noticed, Solonge Knowles is having something of a “moment“. I have long admired Knowles style. From the Sonia Rykiel inspired tresses to her avant-garde panache, Solonge walks to the beat of her own eclectic drum kit, and now with a critically acclaimed album “A Seat at The Table” you can sample those beats. To my mind, this woman is a true innovator and I for one am loving her renaissance!

Mostly Lovin’: Goe Oil

Goe Oil or Jao oil is my current winter weather go-to oil. In truth it’s more of a balm than an oil which is what makes it so incredibility versatile.
A combination of twenty-eight plants, fruits, butters and flower oils, this balm works hard and can be used on lips, hair and well elbows, knees and toes shall we say. The gorgeous fresh floral fragrance is a bonus. Definitely a future firm favourite. Bisous

2017: Et Maintenant?

img_20170104_1443228-2

I have never really been one to merrily usher in the New Year without a deep and somewhat routine sense of trepidation. Let’s be clear, me and New Years simply do not mix. To my mind it is so often a case of no sooner has one got to grips with the year at hand only to find oneself standing on the precipice of the as yet unknown.

You may have noticed, I am not a fan of change in general (unless of course it is of the shoe / handbag variety), but the New Year makes way for extra pressure that is, to be seen to be changing things up. So, as I sit a mere four days into the New year whilst considering the somewhat rude intrusion of my “post-turkey” belly I have decided the following:

1. I will learn to remain on master riding my road bike by the onset of summer…2017.

2. I will not only strive to gain a higher level of physical fitness but I will achieve the best possible shape of my life! I must admit, this particular goal was influenced in no small part by Teyana Taylor’s unbelievable post-baby body as below.

But is She Really Happy?!

But is she really happy?!

3. I will do my best to meditate daily at least once a day.

4. Make more of an effort with regard to personal appearance i.e. comfort over style is not always the way to go…

5. In my formative years I led a predominantly vegan lifestyle. I would like to return to eating vegetarian meals at least five days a week. This will require a lot of forward planning on my part so I shall be enlisting the help of former model and founder of Organice Your Life Lonneke Engel. A certified Health Counselor (a Dutch nutritional qualification), Engel is a real inspiration for those looking to maintain a healthy conscious lifestyle.

When I need a bit of inspiration to spur me on and away from the kitchen cupboards I have a quick look at the Organice Your Life instagram which is great for reminding me that my choices are not merely a faze but how I choose to live. Watch this space…

Bonne année à tous. x
