A Classic

I am clinging somewhat hopelessly to the notion that at any given moment the sun will burst forth from its current hidey-hole and British Summer time will limp forth in all its fleeting glory… I continue to hope. In the meantime, I have made myself very useful by sourcing a new fragrance for the sure to be impending summer months, that is of course a blatant lie as both you and I know we had our day in the sun and it was that Wednesday when the sun was out for two consecutive hours. Anyway, one of my long time “faves” is Guerlain’s Vetiver. Of course, Vetiver is in fact an aftershave but it has for some time been generally perceived to be unisex scent. With top notes of lemon; middle notes of tobacco and Vetiver; base notes consists of nutmeg and pepper, Vetiver has always been something of a timeless companion to me. I like to wear it in balmy climes – it is great as a eau de cologne after a cold shower or worn with little else on a hot night. If you like me are watching the pennies, perhaps persuade the one you love to invest in a bottle which you might then share from time to time…you know it makes sense. Bisous

Some images we come across leave an indelible mark for reasons which more often than not we cannot quite discern. This image of Yasmin Le Bon adorned in Jasper Conran (the epitome of 80′s “chic”), is just such an image. I must have read this copy of Vogue at least a hundred times, positively digesting the images within. The fact that what I saw within those pages bore not the slightest resemblance to my own life made it all the more special. It was pure fantasy and there’s nothing wrong with that… x

Dr Oliver Toothpaste

One of my latest discoveries in the ongoing war against aging teeth (yes my friends…this is really a thing!), is Dr Oliver’s imaginatively named “white smile” tooth paste. This is a gentle but effective whitening tooth paste designed for home use. I have found it to be a great way to limit the need for harsh treatments such as whitening strips etc. So, if you like me cannot abide stained teeth look into this small package with a punch forthwith. x

Last week I shuffled along to Cosmetics a la Carte in Knightsbridge (Ooh très chic, je sais) to have a custom blend whipped up. For those of us not in “the know”, a custom blend is a made to measure service whereby one can have concealer, foundation, and lipstick tailor made to suit one’s complexion.
Cosmetics a la Carte is a unique make-up brand. In 1973 they pioneered the ‘bespoke beauty’ experience whilst also offering an extensive ready-to-wear range.

My Signature Blend

What I found most enjoyable about the experience was the patient assistance provided by my expert make up artist. As we made our way through the range of colour options at no point did I feel I was taking too much time. I elected to go with the “Skin Tint” range – a “build-able anti-ageing foundation with plumping peptides for a dewy youthful glow”. As you know, I am not the most knowledgeable when it comes to make-up so was happy to be tutored in how and where to apply my base to achieve a different finish. The best part is, once you have your custom blend you can re-order online!
